Corporate Social Responsibility in Emerging Markets : the Chilean Experience

Little is known about corporate social responsibility (CSR) in lesser developed countries. To address this knowledge gap, we used Chile as a test case, and conducted 44 in-depth interviews with informants who are leading CSR initiatives. Using institutional theory as a lens, we outline the state of CSR practice in Chile, describe the factors that have led to the emergence of CSR, and note the barriers to wider adoption of these initiatives.
